LEST WE FORGET: STORIES OF HOPE, RESISTANCE, & SURVIVAL RETOLD THROUGH ART
DRAWINGS, PRINTS, PAINTINGS, AND MIXED MEDIA AND ART BY HER STUDENTS FROM LAWRENCE HIGH SCHOOL
Janet Lust Ganes is an artist who works in a variety of media. On view in the HMTC Gallery are artworks inspired by her mother’s story of survival, escaping from Nazi Germany.
Janet created portraits and visual narratives of her family’s experiences and others who fled. Teaching about the Holocaust through art became a passion for her during the past 25 years in her position as an art educator at Lawrence High School. In addition to her drawings, prints, paintings,
and mixed media, also on display is artwork by her students who studied the Holocaust at museum visits and in some cases met survivors. Students who have learned the story of a Holocaust survivor have become their witnesses, and through these students, their stories will live on.
