On February 23, 2021, the Holocaust Memorial & Tolerance Center of Nassau County (HMTC) presented a virtual talk with author Mikhal Dekel about her recent book Tehran Children: A Holocaust Refugee Odyssey. The book, which has been described as a cross between history and memoir, traces the author’s discovery of her father’s flight, after 1939, from Soviet occupied Poland, into the gulags and “special settlements” in the Soviet interior, through Iran and India, and finally to the land of Israel. Learn with the author about a relatively unknown route to Israel and about her effort to peel back the layers of her family’s multi-generational trauma.
