The Holocaust Memorial & Tolerance Center of Nassau County Presents “The Starfish: A Virtual Post-Screening Discussion” with Tyler Gildin & Erin Kade Greenbaum on Tuesday, August 11, 2020 at 11:00am

Glen Cove, NY… The Holocaust Memorial & Tolerance Center of Nassau County (HMTC) presents “The Starfish: A Virtual Post-Screening Discussion” with documentary filmmaker Tyler Gildin and Erin Kade Greenbaum, Senior Director at the Hebrew Immigrant Aid Society (HIAS) on Tuesday, August 11, 2020 at 11:00am. (We are asking attendees to watch the film on their own in advance of our post-screening discussion.)

In 1939, Herb Gildin, age 10, and his two older sisters, were sent by their parents to live in Sweden to escape Nazi persecution. As they waved goodbye, the parents feared they would never see their children again.  Watch Tyler Gildin’s award-winning documentary about his grandfather’s survival, the family’s reunion in New York, and the work of HIAS that made it possible. Then join HMTC for a post-screening discussion with documentary filmmaker Tyler Gildin and Erin Kade Greenbaum, Senior Director at HIAS.

Tyler Gildin is a director and producer who grew up on Long Island and whose previous works have earned him four New York Emmy Awards. Tyler's latest documentary, The Starfish won the Audience Award for Documentary Short at the Syracuse International Film Festival and is currently available on AppleTV, Prime Video, Vimeo on Demand and several other streaming services.

Erin Greenbaum has worked in and around nonprofits for nearly 15 years, with a background in corporate philanthropy, nonprofit fundraising, and consulting. As a Senior Director in HIAS’s Public Affairs Department, she gets to do what she loves—meeting and talking to people and helping them do good. Erin also oversees the HIAS Archives, which dates back to 1909.

While this program is offered free of charge, HMTC still needs your help to continue to provide public programs like this one as well as our educational programs for students and adults. We are looking for 200 individuals to donate $100 each to raise the $20,000 needed to sustain our virtual programs this fall. Visit www.hmtcli.org/donate to make a contribution today.
